The Shema tells us,
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”(a)
Soul refers to our capacity to think, feel, imagine and make decisions.
We love the Lord our God…with all our soul by aligning the functions of our soul to the will of God as revealed in His Word— by exercising the capacity of our soul in ways that demonstrate the character of God, in whose image we are created.
We also demonstrate that we love the Lord our God…with all our soul by taking good care of and nurturing our mind and our brain. The brain is the physical and the mind is the non-physical part of us that execute the function of our soul.
