A GOOD START, BUT WHAT’S NEXT?

The “3 Prayers That Start Your Day Off Right” were definitely a good start to our special 6 a.m. time together.

  • They create a clearly defined framework within which I successfully engage the day unfolding on my path.
  • They clearly define my posture in regard to God, myself, and the day before me.
  • They establish a connection through which the Power of God can flow throughout the day.

But what next?

I waited quietly for further instructions. Father called the meeting, so it was only fitting and proper that He should determine the agenda.

God’s instructions to Joshua came to mind.

Joshua was about to embark on a conquest of new territory in which he would encounter fearsome foes and formidable obstacles.

He, like me, had been summoned to a special meeting with God to discuss the way forward.

I found the conversation in the Bible...

“I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Only be strong and very courageous… This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”(a)

With a notebook and pencil in hand, I set myself to read and study the Word.

“No,” I heard the Father whisper, “that’s not what I had in mind.”

Somewhat bewildered, I listened for clarification.

Father continued,

“Meditating on My Word day and night is what will make your way prosperous and give you good success.”

My mind immediately raised 3 red flags.

  1. “Meditation” is a practice predominantly of Eastern religions and New Age.
  2. In Christian circles, “meditation” is typically prayerful reading and reflective study to gain unique insights from a passage of the Bible. If that’s not what Father had in mind, what kind of “meditation” was He after?
  3. How do you meditate “day and night”? Do you carry your Bible everywhere you go so can read and meditate during coffee breaks, lunch hours, or waiting in the doctor’s office?

“I want you to memorize My Word.”

The words exploded in my mind. The thought completely derailed my runaway train of thoughts. I was dumbfounded.

Memorize Your Word?

What’s that got to do with meditating?

More to come…
